Why This Matters

Every family that leaves Puerto Rico takes with them talent, leadership, and hope for the future.

When young adults leave:

  • Families become separated.

  • Seniors are left without support.

  • Local businesses lose workers and customers.

  • Communities struggle to grow stronger.

Puerto Rico deserves a future where families can build opportunity without leaving home.

Our Biblical Foundation

Jeremiah 29:7

“But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.”

Theory Of Change

If we mobilize churches, nonprofits, businesses, community leaders, and residents across Puerto Rico to strengthen entrepreneurship, agricultural development, energy resilience, housing stability, community trust, and collaborative partnerships,

Then individuals and families will gain greater economic opportunity, stronger support systems, improved community resources, and access to practical pathways that help them build sustainable lives in their own communities,

So that communities become more stable, self-sufficient, resilient, and flourishing. Over time, businesses will grow, jobs will be created, local leadership will be strengthened, infrastructure challenges will be addressed, and families will be better positioned to stay, thrive, and build in Puerto Rico. This will help reduce outmigration, strengthen families, increase community trust, and contribute to long-term spiritual, economic, and community transformation.

What Success Looks Like

By 2030 we aim to:

  • Train 100 entrepreneurs

  • Launch dozens of businesses

  • Create local jobs

  • Strengthen communities

  • Help families stay, build, and thrive in Puerto Rico

Our Stay • Thrive • Build Framework

We believe Puerto Rico's challenges require more than one solution. That's why Mano Extendida combines entrepreneurship, community resilience, faith-based leadership, and strategic partnerships to help families stay, thrive, and build a future on the island.

Meet the Founders

What started as a punishment became a calling.

As a teenager, Edward Rivera was sent to Puerto Rico during a difficult season of life. What felt like discipline at the time became a life-changing experience that gave him a deep love for the island and its people.

Years later, Edward and his wife, Maribell, returned with plans to retire in Puerto Rico. Instead, they discovered a greater mission: helping create opportunities so future generations can stay, build, and thrive.

That mission became Mano Extendida PR.
